Wheems is a small organic farm overlooking sandy
bays and cliffs. The camping field is south facing and
has space for up to 20 pitches.
There are a few well insulated wooden family "bothies"
also, sleeping up to 4 each.
Bedding is provided for these.
Eco Cabins / Bothies:
Each Bothy sleeps 2 adults or up to 4 children. Each Bothy £35 per night
including: Bedding & use of hot showers and campers kitchen.
Camping:
£7 per tent + 1 person per night;
£9 per camper van + 1 person per night;
£2 for electric hook-up;
£3 per each additional person per night; Also family rates (Bothies and tents)
£2 per car per night
Wheems Cottage:
Wheems cottage has a bedroom with a double bed, a bath and shower room, and a
kitchen and living area with double glass sliding doors onto the terrace. £55
per night, 6 nights £300 (bedding included)
Soil Association Certified.
Shared facilities include hot showers, toilets,
washing machine and there is an equipped
campers kitchen.
In season vegetables and eggs can be bought and there is a
small gallery where work is for sale .
There is an artist's studio with work for sale.
Wheems is 15 miles south of Kirkwall by road across the causeways that
link the islands.
Ferries from mainland Scotland to Stomness are available as well as
two ferries to South Ronaldsay itself.
A ferry from John O'Groats in summer carries only foot passengers, but
bikes are accepted.
Pentland Ferries travel from Gills Bay and accepts cars. The journey takes about 40 minutes. O.S grid reference ND466916
